Monocouche XF is manufactured for direct (one coat) installation onto suitable open faced 7kn – 10kn general purpose concrete blockwork.
The substrate should be constructed with a sufficient movement control design containing bed joint reinforcement and or expansion joints as per the specific blockwork manufacturers guidelines and in conjunction with BS 5628-3 Code of practice for use of masonry and BS 6093 Code of practice for design of joints and jointing in building construction.
Information and guidance on the required movement control system should be requested from the selected blockwork manufacturer. Bed Joint Reinforcement and Movement Joints are installed to allow movement with the substrate.
Movement Joints within the substrate are then mirrored within the render coating using a UPVC Expansion Bead.
MonoMesh XF alkali resistant mesh is imbedded into the Monocouche XF at material junctions and surrounding openings to absorb stress.
The key to a successful one coat installation relies on the selection of a suitable block type, the management and control of materials and workmanship during the construction of the substrate and the specification of a suitable movement control system to ensure that the blockwork performs as it should when constructed.
Information and guidance on the required movement control system should be requested from the chosen blockwork manufacturer.
Guidance on constructing to receive Monocouche XF in one coat can also be found within the XF Construction Guide.

BEST PRACTICE:
Monocouche XF can also be installed onto lightweight block, brickwork, stonework, and most masonry construction with the support of a layer of MonoBase XF polymer modified base coat and MonoMesh XF installed to prepare in what we advise to be best practice in all circumstances.
The addition of the MonoBase XF and MonoMesh XF layer provides greater resistance to movement within the substrate whilst increasing protection against water penetration and weathering.
This comprehensive approach provides a consistent base layer without impurity onto which the through coloured Monocouche XF coating is applied thus going as far as possible to protect against issues which may be caused due to the condition and behaviour of the masonry substrate.
A PDF describing the Monocouche XF Best Practice can be downloaded from the Technical Download section and shared with site staff and installing contractors.
Best practice build up
MonoBase XF is applied to 4mm thickness over entire masonry substrate
MonoMesh XF is imbedded into entire MonoBase XF layer whilst wet
Monocouche XF is applied and finished to 15mm total thickness
KEY SYSTEM BENEFITS
Available in 19 stunning colours
Low maintenance without the need to paint
Flexibility to achieve most recognised styles of render finish
Hand or machine applied enabling large areas to be installed
Weatherproof and durable whilst allowing the structure to breathe
Ready mixed with the addition of water the only requirement to install
Greatly reduced program at site allowing other trades to continue earlier and scaffolding to be off hired sooner
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Masonry substrates should be stable, clean, suitably dry and free from dust and loose material.
Newly constructed masonry should be allowed to dry sufficiently before render system install.
Mortar jointing should be flushed level with the surrounding blockwork/masonry.
Levelling preparation should be carried out with MonoBase XF.
Direct contact with the masonry should be made without contamination.
Do not apply to gypsum plaster or previously painted surfaces.
Do not apply in temperatures below 5c, above 30c and before a frost.
TIMBER/STEEL FRAME
Monocouche XF will bond successfully to render specific carrier boards with the support of MonoBase XF and MonoMesh XF however there is an unknown risk of movement within the supporting framework which may cause deflection in the render carrier board forcing the render to crack and for this reason Monocouche XF is not guaranteed in these applications.
Monocouche XF should never be applied to entire elevations constructed of timber/steel frame.
MATERIAL COVERAGE GUIDANCE
Each 25 kg bag of Monocouche XF will cover 1 m² @ 15 mm thickness and each pallet comes with 40 bags (1000 KG) (1 TONNE).
A 25 kg bag of Monobase XF will cover 4 m² @ 4 mm and each pallet comes with 40 bags (1000 KG) (1 TONNE).
Monomesh XF comes as a 50 m² roll.
TOTAL SYSTEM THICKNESS: 15mm
The above information is supplied as a guide only; material usage is completely dependent on specific substrate type and condition.
PRODUCT RECOGNITION

PROFILE BEADING: 15mm UPVC only
Angle/Corner beads are installed to all rendered corners giving definition and providing protection against impact.
Drip/Bell beads are installed at the base of elevations to force water to fall and protect the masonry below.
Stop beads are installed to give neat and level termination at elevation boundaries and material junctions.
Expansion beads are installed over expansion joints within the masonry.
Beads should be bonded with Monocouche XF or MonoBase XF only.
All bead types are supplied in 2.5lm lengths and boxes containing 25 units.

It’s gonna be all White?……(Whites explained)
XF Nimbus White
We are very proud to offer XF Nimbus White the whitest Monocouche render coating on the market.
This stunning material has been created by combining the whitest base aggregates and gives our clients the opportunity to achieve a whiteness of finish that until now has not been possible with cement based through colour render system.
XF Chalk White
This beautiful shade of white is a slightly muted tone of XF Nimbus White perhaps not quite as brilliant when caught by the sun but still clearly a white variant and enjoyed by those looking for a subtle alternative.
XF Heritage White
To complete our spectrum of whites XF Heritage White is our softest white and perhaps the most traditional of our off white shades, in certain lights it has been said that it has a subtle hue much like a premium double cream.

Finish options
The Monocouche XF system has been developed to provide its users with the flexibility to achieve a variety of finishes using the same material components.
In addition to scratched texture the cutting edge Monocouche XF system can be installed to create the following modern and traditional styles.

Scratch finish
Scratch finish
Scratch finish is achieved by removing the top layer of the semi cured material with a scratch or nail float to reveal a stunning decorative texture.
Examples of Scratch finish

Sponge Finish
Sponge finish
Sponge finish is achieved by using a sponge tool once the material has been levelled and then cured enough to resist the pressure of the finishing technique.
Examples of Sponge finish

Rough Cast finish
Rough Cast finish
Rough cast textured finish is created by adjusting the render installation machinery to project the material in the desired consistency, the depth, frequency and general appearance of the texture is altered by changing the speed and distance of the passes.
Examples of Rough Cast finish

Trowel finish
Trowel finish
Trowel finish render is achieved by flattening the material with a trowel once the material has been levelled and cured sufficiently enough to resist the pressure of the finishing technique. This method of installation is often considered as a stunning cost and time saving alternative to building with stonework.
Examples of Trowel finish
Further Details

Ashlar finish
Ashlar details
Ashlar grooves are cut from the material to replicate traditional stone construction as seen in historical locations such Bath and York, the grooves can also be used to frame windows, create window head and sill details bringing another aesthetic dimension to a scheme.
Examples of Ashlar details

Coursing Lines
Coursing lines
Subtle lines can be added to the trowel finished material to appear like masonry courses, these lines can be as wide and deep as required to replicate any size of stone, brick or block and configured to replicate masonry bonding patterns.
Examples of coursing lines
The installation of the Monocouche XF system should be considered as a specialist undertaking and should only be carried out by experienced and where possible approved contractors.
The creation of the selected finish style relies completely on the skill and experience of the installing team. A large sample of the specific finish you have selected should be applied at site for review and approval prior to works commencing.
Once you have selected the colour code, finish type and build up specification for your project simply cut and paste the relevant section from below into your literature and add the specific colour code and finish type into the text body to complete.
