In all the years we’ve been supplying and installing our Monocouche XF system this stunning Peterborough scheme remains one of our favourites and we are delighted to have been asked to return to complete the exiting new and larger second phase in 2022.
The first 15 units were designed and built predominately out of blockwork with some house types having timber framing above porch areas to save weight. Timber framing is boarded with render carrier board to prepare for rendering in a suitable and flexible render system.
The challenge in combining timber framing within a blockwork scheme is that we are unable to warranty Monocouche XF over render carrier board due to the unknown risk of movement in the timber substrate which could potentially flex the boarding and crack the render. To remove all risk and receive warranty a thin coat silicone render should be applied over boarded areas and then in this case the colour and finish of the silicone system must be considered if it is to sit directly next to the sand and cement based Monocouche XF finish.
The client chose our Monocouche XF in colour XF Nimbus White for the blockwork throughout the scheme which meant that the “render only” components of our flexible silicone based MonoTherm TXF system in TXF Nimbus White would be applied over the render boarded areas.
As you can see from the photos both systems integrated seamlessly however it would be our advice that if you wish to render with Monocouche XF you should design and build everything out of masonry and if areas of timber frame construction are required the specification should be changed to MonoTherm TXF which can be applied and warrantied onto both masonry and render carrier board.
