Are you looking for a clear answer on what the average costs of rendering are?

Well, you’re in the right place.

Rendering is a very popular external finish used in construction and renovation to increase aesthetic appeal and provide many key functional benefits to buildings.

Actually receiving a clear answer to the question of “how much does rendering cost” is very beneficial for property owners and developers to set appropriate budgets for their construction project or home improvements and work to stay within those budgets.

The rendering cost does vary based on several factors, including the type of render used, house size, and any necessary additional preparation work, which is why it is important to have an informed understanding straight off the bat.

We will explain the variables that can affect the overall cost and provide a detailed breakdown of the expenses associated with the different render systems we offer here at Monocouche Render Systems.

Factors Influencing House Rendering Cost

The rendering costs of a property can vary significantly based on several factors:

Type of Render System

The installation of render systems, such as Monocouche XF, silicone render, insulated render, and lime render, have varying costs due to the variety of components within each system, and application techniques and processes required to install them correctly.

Project Size and Complexity

Larger projects generally require more materials and labour, increasing the overall cost. Labour costs can fluctuate a little based on factors such as location, the complexity of the rendering process and any bespoke detailing.

Preparation Work

Renovation projects often need additional preparation, such as levelling surfaces, repairing cracks and/or cleaning, which may increase costs.

Location and Accessibility

The location of the property and ease of access may influence the cost of transporting and unloading the materials.

Ongoing Maintenance and Warranty

It is rare to come across a render system and installation project that is covered by a true warranty and the sourcing of the materials and labour independently can be tricky and get very pricey when you add it all up. Luckily for you, here at Monocouche Render Systems, we offer a turnkey installation service backed by a comprehensive  10-year warranty, which covers both render system and workmanship, which is unheard of in the industry! Cost Breakdown by Render System

We thought we’d give you an indication of the cost for us to supply, install and warranty the various render systems we offer to address the technical, functional and design requirements of your project.

Below is a general guide to the costs associated with these systems for a typical existing or new build property requiring 100m² of render or more.

One previously popular option that we haven’t gone into detail about in this article is sand and cement render, which was traditionally chosen due to its availability, simplicity of use and to be quite honest lack of many alternatives until around 30 years ago.  Sand and cement render is a multiple coat installation process that brings quite a heavy maintenance burden, particularly in terms of painting and re-painting, to maintain a fresh appearance (which is why we haven’t included it in our breakdown as the long-term costs associated are difficult to predict).

The rates shown below are a guide based on a typical existing or newly built property that requires 100m2 of render or more..

If you measure your project we suggest that you measure over all openings as the recognised industry measuring method leaves all standard windows and doors in to allow for beading, wastage and protection and halves any larger openings such as bi-folds and glazed atrium areas as these still require a great deal of beading prep, returns and protection.

Silicone render can be mixed to match the endless range of RAL colours and most well-known paint manufacturer’s titles, even Farrow & Ball Elephants Breath! The vibrant, contemporary, weather-resistant silicone render system can be applied to masonry, render board and insulation allowing architects, self-builders and developers the complete freedom to build. Silicone render can improve home insulation when installed as part of an EWI system.

Insulated Render with External Wall Insulation

Insulated render systems offer improved thermal efficiency and aesthetic enhancement, making them a popular choice for energy-conscious property owners and builders.  External wall insulation (EWI) significantly enhances thermal performance while reducing the risk of water penetration, damp and condensation especially for homes lacking cavity walls.

Lime Render

Lime renders are generally installed where a more traditional render finish is preferred and to answer local planning regulations in historic areas or areas of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). The most breathable of all render systems, lime render, can be applied to new build properties and can be selected as part of a plan to reduce damp within an existing home.

Additional Costs to Consider

Renovation projects may require additional preparation such as levelling of existing areas, Helifix stitching to stabilise any cracked masonry, anti-fungal cleaning to ensure key, and removal of existing render which may be charged as extra.

The configuration of the property, phasing of the render works, separate visits to enable scaffolding removal or to prepare for surface-mounted windows (Velfac), and any additional detailing (plinths and bands) may also bring additional costs.

  • Scaffolding: Depending on the height and accessibility of the property, scaffolding may be required, adding to the overall cost.
  • Detailing and Finishing: Additional detailing, such as plinths and bands, can increase labour costs.
  • Site Visits and Phasing: Multiple site visits or phased work can incur extra charges.
